Dear SML Clients, As the discussion intensifies surrounding the appropriate time to resume “business as usual,” it is clear to us at SML that business will not be returning to anything close to “usual,” anytime soon. I say this as both the President of SML – Space Maintainers Laboratories, and as a practicing dentist, just like you. We are all concerned with the health and safety of our employees and staff, yet we also understand the important work we do for our patients and our communities.
So, how do we do this? How do we begin the steps to reaching some semblance or normalcy?
With thoughtful preparation, and careful implementation.
At my dental office, we are doing the following:
Determining our plan for preparing the office, and selecting the services we will offer while ensuring the safety of our staff and patients. This may require minimal use of hand-pieces and providing less invasive care. It may also necessitate more extreme personal protection equipment, and reorganizing the office layout.
Reaching out and discussing with patients our office’s current status and any dental problems or issues they may have. Also, updating medical histories and answering any questions and concerns. We see this as an opportunity to review each patient’s condition for any number of airway or sleep disorders where less invasive solutions are available.
We plan on screening and diagnosing for therapies to support:
Early treatment and interceptive orthodontics
Airway enhancement
Sleep problems
TMJ issues
Prevention of gum disease
This is where SML can help you, now more than ever, as it has helped my dental office for years. SML is here to…
Consult with you regarding these less invasive approaches and solutions
Provide those important appliances critical to the success of these therapies
Source the most appropriate tools and personal protection equipment to keep everyone safe.

Dr. Jerald Simmons, Triple Board-Certified in Neurology, Epilepsy and Sleep Medicine, will be speaking about Telemedicine. The webinar is scheduled for Wednesday, May 13th (more details to follow). Although many offices are currently closed, now is the time to set the stage for near term business by introducing your patients to better sleep.
